2 Questions to Ask Yourself When Choosing Your Wedding Day Timeline

Portland_Maine_wedding_planner

There are no definitives in a wedding day timeline because you need something that's unique to you, but there are 2 big questions that will help shape your day and it's helpful to think about your day in 3 parts: the morning when you're getting ready, the ceremony and photos, and lastly, the reception. This is how I'm breaking it down for you!

As for your morning, this is the easy part because that’s really dependent upon your makeup artist and hair stylist. But before your ceremony begins, be sure that you have some time to yourself planned and a good lunch.

QUESTION ONE. To prepare for the middle of your day, will you have a first look?

If the answer is yes, then here is how that may look for you:

  • getting ready
  • first look
  • wedding party and family photos
  • ceremony
  • cocktail and remaining photos
  • reception

If the answer is no, then this may be a better fit:

  • getting ready
  • ceremony
  • cocktail hour and photos (newlywed, family, and wedding party)
  • reception

QUESTION TWO. For the reception, do you want to begin with your first dance or dinner?

If it's a first dance, how about this:

  • announcement as newlyweds
  • first dance
  • welcome toast
  • dinner
  • toasts
  • father/daughter and/or mother/son dance
  • dancing
  • dessert
  • dancing

If you'd rather start with food, try this lineup:

  • announcement as newlyweds
  • welcome toasts
  • dinner
  • toasts
  • first dance
  • father/daughter and/or mother/son dance
  • dancing
  • dessert
  • dancing

Other events can certainly be added to this! Maybe you’re doing a bouquet or garter toss! Your venue space may also help determine which timeline you choose. Once you decide on the order, adding times is the next step. Feel free to ask for help if you need it-- that's what I'm here for!! No matter what you decide, be sure it’s a good match for YOU! Your day will be incredible!
