Registry Review, Part I

Choosing a place to register seems to be a harder decision than it should be. After digging in with some research, I’ve gathered some helpful information about some of the options on the market. I’ve taken a look at 6 options, which I’m going to divide into a two part blog sequence. The six are:

Zola

Amazon

My Registry

Blueprint

Simple Registry

Crate and Barrel

I. Z O L A

Gift options:

Gift cards for experiences such as Airbnb and Southwest Airlines

Gift cards to stores, such as Home Depot

Brands like le Creuset, Cuisinart, Safavieh, Crate and Barrel, Dyson, Big Agnes

Items to cover anything you need: bed and bath, kitchen and dining, experiences, pets, hiking and camping gear, and more

Cash funds to help cover something else you may need (home repairs, honeymoon experiences, etc)

Features and notes:

Manage the gifts received and your thank you notes

Add a personal photo

Free shipping for your guests

Group gifts available

Zola notifies you when the number of registry items is running low and each time a gift is given

Privacy: you have the option to make it searchable on Google or only on Zola and at this time, password protection isn’t an option

Returns and exchanges:

Free returns

Exchange gifts before a gift even ships without guest knowing: “Because you give the okay to ship each gift, you can wait to see what guests gift; if one purchases an item already received, then you can virtually exchange it for Zola credits or another item.”

II. A M A Z O N

Gift options:

Variety right within Amazon’s site

Gift cards, like Airbnb and Southwest Airlines

Can add third party items through their Universal Registry option

Features and notes:

Guests have to have an amazon account (not necessarily prime)

For third party items, Amazon will direct your guests to that site, but you will have to add the details about the item yourself and your guest has to go back to Amazon to mark the item as purchased. Amazon writes: When you browse a registry, you may see non-Amazon items listed with a "Shop this store" button. These are universal items. If you want to buy one of these items, you can click "Mark this item as purchased" and you will be prompted to enter your information. You will then be sent an email to complete the process. This will mark the item as purchased on the registry. You will still need to purchase the item from the other store and provide a shipping address. Amazon does not handle transactions for these items and our A-Z guarantee does not apply to these transactions.

You can prioritize gifts

Prime members get a 20% discount on any items remaining on your list after your wedding and non prime members receive a 10% discount

Privacy: make it so it’s public or so anyone with the link can view

Group gifting available

Returns and exchanges:

Free returns with 180 days of delivery

III. C R A T E A N D B A R R E L

Gift options:

Anything from crate and barrel and CB2, including gift cards

Features and notes:

Everything ships free

Get 10% off your remaining items for up to 6 months

Use their app for easy adding of items

Easy tracker to help you manage gifts and thank yous

You can receive bonus gifts for reaching a certain dollar amount on some brands within Crate and Barrel, ex. Spend $500 on Le Creuset products and receive a bonus gift!

The system updates your registry within 15 minutes of a guest buying a gift

Returns and exchanges:

Return in store (some reviews from past brides say this was an easy process and others have shared that it was more difficult)

I’m looking forward to sharing the other three with you next week: Simple Registry, Blueprint, and MyRegistry. If you have questions, send me a quick email at hello@dotinganddetails.com.
